Fourth Corner Exchange
At Fourth Corner Exchange, they offer something called Community Currency, or the Life Dollar.
What’s a Life Dollar?
A life dollar, or community currency, are an exchange in which is mediated on a community level. In other words, Fourth Corner Exchange is a mutual credit, time-based community currency system. It supports gift economy, which is fundamentally different than cash economy. This system is based on Human Capital–Your skills and energies.
What Can be traded/How is this different than Barter?
Just about anything can be traded, such as therapeutic skills, counseling, or complimentary medicine; classes and workshops, cleaning services, computer support, household goods, and much more. Unlike bartering, the goods and services you can obtain are not limited to those provided by people who want to exchange with you directly. The Life Dollars you earn can be ’spent’ with anyone else in the system.
